The Ever-So-Happy Girl

A poem for a friend I just started to know... after one year. The ever-so-happy girl from Science 3 class, Reaching out my hand to know her by heart; We see each other, all the time, But speak less than 2 sentences each time. First time I saw her, Outgoing and friendly is all I think about her; "Talkative" would not be suitable, For the ever-so-happy girl. I missed the chance to know her, Wasted 6 months half a year; Never did I realize such a nice girl, Is always around me, near. We had some misunderstandings once, Left inside our heart deep scars; Though we have sorted out things at last, But what's done... is done. Last time we were running, I remember, We ran past each other twice, without saying a word; It was as if we don't even know each other, But deep inside my heart, I really wanted to know her. I was the last among my friends, Waiting in this long queue, near the end; A queue to know her as a friend, Because too many people are trying, in vain. I remember how she called me with a funny nickname, Like it just happened yesterday, feels so close yet can't catch; I remember how she tricked me with an IQ question, Laughing at me for taking so long to find the solution. I can't hold my chance, because time flies too fast, I couldn't get to know her, before I even get the chance; So, however much time that's left for me, I will appreciate it, every minute and second. Because I haven't have the chance to know her, The Ever-So-Happy Girl...

Descendants of Dino

I was going to write an article, but came up with the idea of writing a short poem instead.
I have just discovered a new species They stay in a place where everyday I can see They live with me for a very long time With names derieved from the extinct reptile Dano, Deno, Dino, Dono, Duno Descendants of dinosaurs, but not many people know Fierce as their ancestor may seem Yet among them, cuteness is seamed Those names are merely their common name For I have just came up with a new scientific name Same family of the dinosaurs But one thing for sure: they never roar Took me a long time to seek Translate from English to Greek At last, I found a new species: "Porphureosaurus mikri" Literally meaning, accuracy in doubt, "Small purple lizard" is all I can think, for now.

Little Teddy

A short poem to show my gratitude.
Mine is purple, yours is blue.
A small gift to help me think of you.

Not-so-perfect they may seem,
But what matters most is the sincerity.

They may be very far apart,
But they invariably connect our hearts.

Reminds me of you whenever I see it,
Makes me smile whenever I touch it.

Hope you also feel the same way,
Think of me when you see yours everyday.

Just a simple act of giving,
Yet it carries a lot of meanings.

Sincerity, gratitude, or simply a souvenir,
Whatever it is, it has indeed brought us closer.

Thinking of you, thinking of me,
Remember this whenever you sneeze.

Whenever we're feeling down,
Bear in mind, because little Teddy will always be around.

Whenever we are happy,
Just remember to share it with little Teddy.

Rest assured, this will be a gift I will keep forever.
Because it never fail to remind me of those times we had together.

Little Teddy in purple, little Teddy in blue,
Whispering softly, "How are you?"

First Time

A poem partly inspired by a song by Lifehouse of the same title.
I'd been feeling down lately. Because I was still haunted by that incident. You saw me, looking like a dead body. I saw you, surprised at what you see. When I saw you cute bubbly face, For the first time since a long time ago, I smiled unknowingly, you know? Without any obvious reasons, though. When I went shopping with you, For the first time in my life, I didn't know what I was going through, And I know it may be a big disappointment for you. Remember that time when you were gone To a place outside of the town? For the first time I felt very alone. Like I said before, strange as it may sound. Time flies so fast when you're having fun, We lost contact for about 6 months. I always thought you'd long forgotten me. I thought wrong, it seemed. That day we went to watch movie For the first time I feel happy. It's been a long time Since I last smiled, So happily, I grinned from ear to ear, You could just wish My face would stuck like that forever! The first time I saw you through webcam, Once again, the feeling of happiness came. Do you realize the picture of your bubbly face Came in just about the right time? Because your face was like an antidote A cure for those troubles I've been thinking of. Because of you, I'm feeling alive. Because of you, I'm living my life All over again, for the first time. You suggested I change a theme, And now I've written, accordingly. This may not be as good as it may seems, But this one is for you, Shir Ley.

Friend - ship

It's been a long time since I last wrote a poem of this theme.
There once was a ship. A very large ship, indeed. But this liner was atypical. It was different from others. The sail was made of "trust". The greater the "trust", The longer its journey would last. The deck was made of "understanding". Because the deck was the foundation of all ships. Without it, they wouldn't be termed as ships. The wheel was made of "dedication". As it determined the direction, Which was its main function. The anchor was made of "conflict". For it's better not to have it, As it would made the journey halt eventually. Let "the end" be a place on land. So that the ship would never reach "the end", So that its journey would continue without an end. Let "argument" be the rough sea. As it would slow down the journey, And a smooth journey began with calm sea. And let "contact" be the wind. For without "contact", without wind, The journey of the ship would never begin. The ship still sails, Even til today. Because as long as I'm here, and you're there, However long it will stay. It is not an ordinary ship. And its name will explain it. It bears a name that none other ships have, A ship given by the name "Friend-ship".

A Big Thank You

For you, Shir Ley.
Another poem for you, A whole new things to tell you. 'coz writing poem is all I can do To express my thoughts to you. After all I've done to you, Those poems that I've written; Those troubles that I've listened, I never wish for you to repay. I have always been a sincere friend, Like what you say I am. I treat friends like they're part of me, But never ask for them to remember me. Because to me, I feel like I am just a "passer-by" in their life. Nothing special, nothing worth to remember. I just ask for them to remember what I've done. Yeah, and that's all I want. Though I have troubles of my own, I never refuse to help friends that I've known. Because if I were not to change the world, Maybe I will just listen to other people. So that they feel comfortable; So that they'll have one less trouble. Now that you say you're happy To have a friend like me. You know how I feel When I first read it? Delighted, joyful, Pleased, Blissful. Indescribable feelings. I am glad to hear you say that. Glad... very glad. For no one has ever expressed their gratitude To me through words or speech. Therefore, please allow me to give you A BIG, BIG THANK YOU...

Do You Know

A poem inspired by a song by Enrique Iglesias of the same title.
Do you know what it feels like? To avoid you every time I see you, Given that I can meet you every time I go to school? I don't dare to make eye contact with you, Nor I have the gut to talk to you. Friends have been making fun of me, But I just laugh along and try to ignore it. It's just that they just haven't realize that, The friendship between us has almost severed. You never want to contact me anymore, do you? No calls like last time, no SMS like what we used to do. I have always wanted to ask you, How's life after what we've been through? Do you know what it feels like? Trying to ignore what my friends have been saying, Pretending that nothing has ever happened between you and me? But somehow, I have to keep on pretending, For the sake of you and me. I don't look at you anymore. Happy, sad, angry or laughing, I don't know. You told me to leave you alone, And without protesting, I will try to play along. How's life nowadays? Still feeling down like you told me that day? Or are you feeling happier now when I'm away? Or have you found a better way? Or are you thinking everyday? Just like me? There's so much I wanted to say. I just can't explain it in a simpler way. I've been thinking, even while I'm having fun, How can I make amends for what I've done? Do you know what it feels like? To have a relationship between us, That ends with both of us behave like strangers? Do you know what it feels like? To change from friends to strangers, All because of a simple act of foolishness? Do you know what it feels like? Of being me?

A Story about A Story

A story inspired by a story. (By my friend)
I may be very quiet, But deep inside my heart, I feel a jerk. Something I've been keeping for so long, Is struggling to get out of this "doorless home". Maybe now is the time I set it free, Maybe, just maybe. But I have promised my friend, Not to tell anybody again. So, let me tell you a story instead, Which may not sound very clearly. Because I can't be too detailed. It all begins with this... A simple act of friendship. He gave her a present on her birthday, Without realizing what the consequences may be. It was just a simple act of giving, But it had caused a whole lot of troubles. Friends started to spread the rumour, Friends started to tease them. They felt very embarrassed, very... And he felt guilty. He thought he was the main reason, Why they kept a distance. It was not until the following year, They were transfered to the same college. He thought it was fate, That bound them together for another 2 years. He thought he was lucky, But he was thinking too much. Way too much... Finally he decided to tell her his feelings, But the result wasn't what he used to think. It got much more complicated, With him thinking even more than ever. He thought of those things he'd done; He thought of those pain he'd caused; He tried to ask himself once, Was he making her suffered, Just because he didn't think before he acted? In a period of time, they lost contact. No calls, no SMS, no chat. She told him to wait and to keep on waiting, For the time to settle this whole scenario of misunderstanding. He didn't utter a word, not even one. He just waited eagerly for the time to come. Days gone by, Weeks flew by. Even now, almost a month later, He's still waiting for her. Somehow, he seems like he's actually waiting for himself, To accept the stark fact, To accept the cold hard fact. Maybe, just maybe... Maybe one day, he'll realize. Realize that the answer will never be what he liked. Realize that, It's time to let go of the past, and to move on in life... And thus the story ends, With the ending still on hold. Promise me, don't spread it again, This little story I've been keeping for so long.

How Long Has It Been

A poem for her.
How long has it been, Since the last time you contacted me? Since the last time I explained to you? Since the last time we got so mad at each other? The answer, it seems, Very clear, like the sky. Yet, I still think I don't know, The truth I've been chasing all along. Somehow, I feel like you were just kidding, That the true answer is not what it seems to be. Hence, I've been waiting, Waiting for you to call me. Waiting to be free... Days gone by, and I still don't know why Why you don't mind me anymore; Why you just leave all the problems behind; Although I know it all along, That the problem lies within me. How long has it been, Since the last time we talked? I still remember, How we used to be friends, How we used to be avoiding each other, Each time we meet eye to eye. But now, those things have become history. No more like friends; No more avoiding each other; Instead, We act like we don't even know each other; We act like we have never met before; We act like strangers; Friends? No more... Just want to remind you, How long has it been? Now the answer is one month, But soon it will be two, And keep adding up. I know, you won't even know I wrote this, But I just can't stand it anymore. Maybe you were right. Maybe we should get back to what we were like; Maybe it's best we continue to be like this; And hope that we can forget those memories...

For you, my friend

Second poem for my friend.
For you, my friend. A poem just for you, again. There's nothing I can do to you, Except express through poem how I feel. For you, my friend. You are indeed a special friend. We never meet, face to face, For six months, to be exact, But you still regard me as best pal, And that has actually made me feel poignant, No, not for a while... For you, my friend. A second poem that I promised; Another poem to show how much you meant to me. There were times I was feeling down, And you were always around, To help me up, And to vanish my frown. For you, my friend. Because I think I haven't done enough to you. Because you treat me too well. A treatment that seems too much for an ordinary friend. Too well that I could have just broke down and cry. For you, my friend. To show my gratitude to you, For regarding me as a great friend. Sometimes I felt like you have forgotten me, In the way how we lost contact for a while. But in the end, I realize, Those thoughts are merely a figment of my imagination. All because I have been thinking too much. For you, my friend. Written just to thank you. Written just for you. Written just to show you How I am such a fool. To think that you have forgotten me, To think that I am just a droplet Among the pouring rain. Never will I think that way again. Just for you, my friend...

Forgive me

A poem for both myself and my friend.
Please forgive me, For what I've done to you; For what I've said to you. For I did not realize How much you've been through Please forgive me, For I've done the wrong thing; For I've hurt your feeling. Now you must've been very sad Because I've done what I shouldn't have done. Please forgive me, For I did not think before I act; For I did not think of how you would react. Because of that I feel remorse For causing you so much pain. Please forgive me, For making such a harsh decision, And causing you lost control of your emotions. I know that although you always smile, But those smiles are merely meant to hide. Oh Lord, please forgive me, For what I've done to my dear friend, Tell her that this is not the end. After those things I've done to her, I will never be grateful for what I've done, NEVER! All I want is forgiveness, From You, Lord, and from her friends, Who worries for her day and night, Who keep saying, "Keep trying until you feel alright!" For days you've been feeling down, Nothing can make you smile, not even a clown. But there are friends who care for you, Stand up for you, worry for you. What's more could you ask for? So, I just want you to know, That I wish you will forget these. And Lord, I seek Your forgiveness, For doing such horrible thing To my beloved friends!

Happy Birthday

This is just a draft of a new poem. Changes are expected in the near future. I can't think of anything else.
Years gone by and you don't realize, The number keeps adding up, one by one. Grimly reminds us how long we have been in this world, Yet, it also tells us that our life is getting Shorter and shorter. Another cake for another year, Along came another stick of candle, Candles that resemble the years we've traveled. Increasing annually, and silently whisper to us, "you're one year older, pal." Then they sing to you with voice so joyful: "Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you!" Before they're blown, The candlelights dances on their own. This is the time we make our wishes, Hoping the candles will hear us and grant every single one of them. Such is the tradition of birthday, Created by our ancestors, preserved til today. No one really knows how or who started this, Yet, it is a tradition so well preserved, that everyone still practice it nowadays. Everyone from every corner of the world is singing: "Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you!" Now that you are celebrating your own birthday, Another cake, another candle, another unforgettable day. Let us laugh along and sing along, And let us make your day! "Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you!"

Birthday poem by my Bro

This is a poem written by my bro on my birthday. Good poem indeed.
O' little brother of mine, Had grown up fast, grown up fine. Still remember when you were shorter, Now you're taller than both your brothers. Gone are the days we spent together, Less is the time we talk to each other. But before you think it slipped my mind, No it didn't, not this lil brother of mine. For 18 years ago, I got a little brother, Ever since then grateful was I ever. Ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, Fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen. Another candle, another year, Another birthday for my brother so dear. Here's wishing you from hundred miles away, My little brother who turned eighteen today...

Be Happy

A short poem for my emotionally hurt friend.
O' sweet little friend of mine, Are feeling down and not so fine; Still couldn't forget the moment she smiles, So pleasing it makes people go wild; Although sometimes she can be very hot-tempered, Yet deep inside her, she just wanna be heard; Now that she's feeling down, And no longer smiles sweetly, but frowns; Keep in mind, my dear little friend, That this is not the end; That you still have me as a buddy, Who'll do anything and go through everything Just to make you... FEEL HAPPY.

To me...

This poem is dedicated to (L-R) Hooi Pheng, Pei Sun, Chee Huan, and Hwoi Leng.

To me...
Year 2007 is a big turning point,
Because that's when I changed my viewpoint;
That's when I changed my personality,
Almost completely.

I didn't turn at the point just like that,
But it was my friends who gave a push at my back.

But bear in mind,
This is not a poem about me,
Or how I changed my individuality;
It is a poem about 4 "special" friends,
Who walked into my life and made me change.

To me...
One of them is actually my primary schoolmate,
Who took a very long time to recognize my face;
Her name is Hooi Pheng,
And I knew her the moment she talked to my friend.

To me...
She is a polite girl,
Who still possess the qualities she once had;
Albeit she is a little taller than others,
That doesn't stop her from making new pals.
Although sometimes she can be quite serious,
I know that, deep inside her, she is not furious.

To me...
The second person is,
The one to who took the initiatives;
She is the first one to mix with us,
And THAT had actually help me unlocked my "inner prison".

To me...
She is the most playful among the four,
And probably the most talkative among them all;
Her name is Chee Huan, but people call her "purple ring",
'coz that's what her name literally means.
She may be playful and talkative,
But all in all, she makes a good buddy.

To me...
She looked very familiar when I first saw her face,
It's like I had met her before, sometime, someplace;
We, in fact, became close after a "disaster",
Of which I accidentally drank her water bottle.

To me...
Her name is actually Pei Sun,
And it's uncannily the same as an old friend of mine;
Same in Chinese words, but differ in alphabets,
Of which always reminds me of the old friend that I have yet to contact.
However, this doesn't stop us from being buddy,
And our relationship improves, slowly but surely.

To me...
She may have given me an awful first impression,
But sometimes I feel sympathetic for her.
Despite people always tease her, despise her,
She bears them no grudges.

To me...
She is like me in the past, people always brush her aside,
But I do believe, though, if we give her more time,
She will slowly start to change, start to realise,
Just like what I have been doing all the time.
Friends may be calling her nicknames,
Please be considerate, people, Hwoi Leng is her real name.

To me...
Four of them can be considered as my good friends,
Albeit each of them is a little bit atypical.
But remember, people,
Not all human are perfect.

To them...
I may be the same person;
To me...
I have become a better human.
To them...
This may be an ordinary poem;
But to me...
It's my gratitude to them!

Thanks to them,
My life is colourful!

A Book on a Shelf

What can I tell about myself?
Because I am just a book on a book shelf.
We were always told not to judge a book by its cover,
But I am just a book, without a cover.

I am a book filled with pictures of thousand moods:
Anger, happy, sad, pain, agony, bad and good.

There once was a fat boy,
His friends in secondary,
Taught him a thing about "football",
And so, he managed to slim down,
Tremendously,
Exaggeratedly.

Born on the 16th of September,
1989 was the year.
Born into a loving family,
Who always gives him the support he needs,
To swim against the tide;
To wade through obstructions;
To learn valuable lessons along the path of life;
Until he reaches his destination,

No one is perfect in the world,
As this is the reason why he never complain, even a word.
But sometimes he wishes he was more good looking,
But then again, he remembers someone told him to "count his blessings"

Shy have always been his greatest weakness,
'coz he always hide himself behind the others.
Because of this, he seldom talked to girls,
However, friends have made him more confidence.

So, no one is actually perfect in the world.
Man or woman, boy or girl.
Including even you,
And me, as a book, too.

But people change over time, one way or another,
So do I...

Because I have just found my "cover".

Voices of Nature

Focus your mind, and listen. Did you hear that? The wind is whispering, "No matter how far you go, for you I'll blow." Close your eyes, and listen. Did you hear that? The sun is croaking, "In the time of darkness, I'll brighten up your day to the fullest." Relax your body, and listen. Did you hear that? The thunder is roaring, "There's nothing to be afraid of me, if you are brave enough to see." Look up to the sky, and listen. Did you hear that? The moon is whistling, "When you feel alone at night, remember I'll always by your side." Give it another try, and listen. Did you hear that? The stars are blabbering, "Alongside the moon, we will make your night more cheerful." Now, do nothing, just listen. Did you hear that? I said, "Although our friendship might be short, you are still a friend I'm happy to know."

Who Would Have Known?

This poem is specially written for a friend of mine who will be going to Segamat on 21st May 2007.
Who would have known? We used to be sitting in the same class, But we didn't know each other quite well. I was always the last, While she was a brilliant girl, i could tell. Who would have known? Then came the time we parted ways, And we would be on the different track. Some felt very sad to go away, But I continued my journey without looking back. Who would have known? I ended my secondary school life, Thank God, with peace of mind. But it was the year 2005, I looked back in time. Who would have known? I searched through the book, Looking for any handphone number. I stopped and I took a good look, There it was, a number belonged to a girl. Who would have known? Using my phone, I SMS-ed her, To my surprise, she did reply. From that day on, we always SMS each other, But I seldom meet her eye-to-eye. Who would have known? Even through text messaging, Our relationship improved in lightning speed. Sadness or joy she brings, I would help her when she needed it. Who would have known? Now that she will be gone, To a place outside of the town. Because of this I feel alone, Strange as it may sound. Who would have known? A 4-year gap between our friendship, Did not seem to have affected us. In fact, it actually improves it, I didn't expect this at first. Who would have known? Because future we can't predict, Past we can't forget. As the camera shutter clicks, The memory will be forever set. Who would have known? That from an almost complete stranger, It blossoms into such a beautiful friendship!
This poem was written when I attended NS. Long live Kem Desaru Gerakhas! Ha ha...

The Thing That Last Forever

Someday in the middle of the night, Someone came knocking at my door. I opened the door and what greeted my sight Was nothing at all. I was about to close the door, when Something stopped me from closing it. It was actually an old man With wrinkles all over his grey, wan face. Huffing and puffing and wheezing His stomach was growling. And so, I invited him in, And gave him something to eat. After gobbled up every single food and drink, He began to glow luminously And explained that he was actually A wizard from the Realm of Light. "Thou art so kind," he croaked, "Thus, I shalt grant thou three wishes" "Wish upon anything thou want," "And I wilt grant them one by one." After thinking for a while, I finally made up my mind. "Fortune" was the first thing i wanted, And the wizard waved his wand. 'Poof' "Here goes the fortune thou wished." Another old man appeared amidst us, Who claimed himself as "Hardworiking" "From now on, thou shalt take care of him." Amused by not getting anything Except a man called Hardworking, I made another wish "Success" was what i wished. 'Poof' "Here is the success thou wished." Again, another old man magically appeared Who uncannily resembled the other old man But "Dedication" was his name. I was very angry by that Everything I wished, old man was what I get. However, I still made my one last wish. "Anything that would last forever!" Nothing came out. Not even the 'Poof' sound. Nor the haggard looking old man. Instead, an image came into my mind. Clear as crystal, like a vivid memory. As if I WAS thinking it. It was an image of all the friends I knew. Every single one of them. Flowing like a cascading waterfall. "Friendship," was all the wizard say, When he noticed my puzzled look, Before he faded away, Along with the other two old men, Never to be seen again. Long I stood, Long I stared. Trying to figure out, What was that all about. 'Til now only I know What the wizard was trying to show. "In order to get "success" and "fortune". Thou hast to be hardworking and hast dedication. And the only thing that would last for eternity? 'tis FRIENDSHIP between you and me!"
